How to Save Money on Gifts This Christmas

How to Save Money on Gifts This Christmas

From purchasing the perfect tree to travel expenses for visiting family, New Yorkers everywhere are struggling with money this December. This time of year can especially be stressful if you’re running low on cash for gifts for your loved ones.

Does this sound like you? Good news: you don’t need to stress anymore.

Here, we’ve compiled a list on how to save money on Christmas gifts this year.

Last-Minute Shopping

Super Saturday, which takes place on the last Saturday before Christmas, is a good day to save a lot of money on your Christmas gifts. On this day, many retailers offer amazing discounts.  The downside? It’s super last-minute.

Still, retailers offer some great deals. For example, if you’re looking for a shirt for your dad or a dress for your mom, Ralph Lauren offered discounts of up to 65 percent on Super Saturday last year.

Amazon also has their annual last-minute Christmas deals in December, offering limited-time sales on electronics, toys, clothing, shoes and jewelry. Last year, consumers saved over $100 by buying a laptop with a Microsoft Office Package.

Make Your Own Gifts

An increasingly popular trend around the holidays are do-it -yourself (DIY) gifts. These kinds of gifts not only save you money, they’re also funner to receive and perfect for everyone in your family. The best part? You probably have most of the items you need at home already.

This year, you can create everything from your own candles and wood coasters, to earrings and personalized pilsner glasses. Click here for some examples on DIY gifts.

Not an expert in making your own DIY gifts? Don’t fret: You can also make Christmas-inspired edibles, including snowflake biscuits, classic nougat or hot chocolate kits in nice wrapping. These treats are perfect gift for your uncles, cousins, co-workers and neighbors. You can search for more tasty recipes here.

Personalized Coupons

A personalized coupon is a perfect way to give your services to your loved ones instead of buying stuff. You’re not only saving money, it’s also an opportunity to hang out with the people you love.

For instance, give your best friends a coupon for a girls night at your place, where you arrange dinner and movie. For your brother and your sister-in-law, you can offer up a coupon where you offer to babysit for one night.

Here you can find examples of what you can put on your personalized coupons. All you really need is a piece of paper, a pen and your creativity. Go nuts!
